The UN CEDAW Committee, which revised the periodic review of Spain this July, just published its concluding observations. The report highlights the following issues: the failure of Spain to implement the Committee’s rulings; the need for Spain to withdraw the reform requiring young women of 16 or 17 years of age to secure parental permission in order to abort; the lack of training for judges, public defenders and lawyers on the content of the Convention; and the committee’s concern regarding the summary deportations of women and girls from Ceuta and Melilla.
