164 states have officially adopted the controversial UN migration pact in Marrakesh. It is the first agreement that sets global guidelines for international migration. The aim of the pact is to achieve worldwide standards for organising migration in a secure, regular and orderly manner. The pact was rejected by 28 countries, including the US, Austria and Hungary. In Belgium the governing coalition of Prime Minister Charles Michel broke apart as a result of a dispute over the pact. The right-wing Flemish party N-VA dropped out of the alliance in protest at the government's plans to approve it.
