Ukraine has filed a lawsuit against Russia with the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Russia is accused of unlawfully annexing Crimea, financing and providing weapons to separatist groups in Eastern Ukraine and persecuting ethnic Ukrainians and Tatars in Crimea. Ukraine also asks the Court to find Russia responsible for downing of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 in 2014. Two hundred ninety-eight people on board were killed after the Russia-backed separatists fired a missile at the plane, an independent inquiry found in 2016.
