UEFA, the organization governing European football, is adding a human-rights provision to the set of criteria for selecting a host nation for the 2024 European Championship, the top international competition in Europe. The organization will decide in September 2018 on the winning bid between Germany and Turkey, the only two countries that have shown interest in hosting the games. Both associations have until April 27, 2018, to formally submit their bids. UEFA is basing the criteria on the United Nations' Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and other UN conventions.
