Responding to suggestions that it ban accounts of world leaders such as Donald Trump, Twitter has issued a statement saying that it will not do so because "elected world leaders play an essential role in the public debate". By blocking the account of a world leader or deleting controversial tweets, Twitter argues that it would be removing important information and hampering necessary discussions about their words.
