The Netherlands offered on June 14 its ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to the secretary-general of the United Nations. The Convention requires that persons with a disability have equal rights, for instance with respect to housing, education and work. The Dutch ratification, which entered into force on July 14, arrives 10 years after the UN officially adopted the Convention. The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights functions as a watchdog for the enforcement and implementation of the Convention.
