The Lithuanian Parliament has rejected an amendment to the law seeking to prohibit persons convicted of sexual offenses against a child from working with children again. These amendments are required by the EU directive on combating the sexual exploitation of children. The naysaying MPs were suspicious of the provision that children must be protected from crimes against "sexual self-determination and inviolability." In their view, this sought to allow children to choose their gender, with parents or teachers being unable to oppose them.
