The Court of Lecco, Northern Lombardy, has decided that children born to a married gay couple should be able to have the surname of its parents choosing. Indeed, a child born to two women who were married in Portugal was authorized to take its mothers' common name. Even though the Italian law on gay marriage and stepchild adoption isn’t very permissive, the court ruled in the name of "the best interest of the minor," who should be able to keep its familial status and proper identity.
