While negotiations on the Transatlantic Treaty (TTIP) continue with a strong lack of transparency, the municipality of Saint-Gilles, one of 19 municipalities of Brussels, decided to symbolically mark its opposition to this treaty and the foreseeable social, economic and environmental impacts, declaring itself a "Non-TTIP Area." Other towns in Belgium and France have taken the same initiative. If the snowball effect continues, it could have an influence on when the treaty will be submitted to regional parliaments.
