A Muslim organization in Norway is facing criticism after it hired a communications officer who wears a full-face veil. Those who have criticiszed the Islamic Council of Norway's (IRN) hiring include the culture minister, Muslim MPs and other Muslim organizations. The IRN general secretary told Norwegian TV the woman had been chosen because she was the most qualified, but Culture Minister Linda Helleland warned that the move would "create distance and less understanding." Norway's Parliament has already supported a ban on full-face veils in schools.
