The EU is violating human rights and international law in its attempts to slow refugees from crossing the Mediterranean Sea, a new report says. The report, from US-based Refugees International, warns that the EU’s push to prevent boats leaving the Libyan coast – migrants' main departure point for Europe – is leading to horrific rights violations. Despite a raging civil war in the country, Brussels has pledged tens of millions of euros in funding for authorities in Libya, where acts of torture, rape and killings have caused migrants to dub it "hell on Earth."
