Forty-one years since the passage of Italy's historic referendum on divorce, the Italian Parliament has reformed the law. From now on, the necessary lapse of time between separation and divorce will be reduced from three years to one year. It will decrease to six months if the divorce is consensual. Nothing changes if the couple has minor children. The reform comes after about ten years of parliamentary debate.
