Czechia hasn't already been an ideal country with total freedom of the media, according to Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Among 180 surveyed countries, it was relegated from the 9th to 21st position in the latest ranking. Although Europe remains an area where the media is most free, RSF noted a general deterioration due to "abuse" of counterintelligence and counterterrorism agencies through legislative measures to enable surveillance. Conflict of interest and control of the state over the public also increased, but sometimes over private media.
