A Syrian man was arrested by security patrol in Zgorzelec, a town on the Polish-German border. The guards checked the man’s ID and after concluding that his stay in Poland is illegal, handed him over to the Border Guard. Later it turned out that the Syrian stays in Poland legally. The incident triggered many hateful comments on social media. "Mere suspicion that a person is illegally staying in Poland does not give security guards any authority to arrest them," said Dr. Pudzianowska, a lawyer at the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
