Several people have been hurt in clashes between police and anti-fascist demonstrators in the German city of Hannover as they tried to blockade the far-right Alternative for Germany's (AfD) first conference since it entered parliament. About 6,000 people joined a pro-immigration rally and another rally called by trade unions was expecting more. Protesters planned five demonstrations to coincide with the AfD conference, which elected Alexander Gauland as co-leader along with Jörg Meuthen. Both hardliners, their election suggests the party is marching further to the right.
