The Polish Ministry of Justice is planning to change regulations that would make compulsory penal labor more common. Until now, such work had been paid for, with few exceptions. According to the new amendment of the executive criminal code, one of the new changes allows more parties to be able to hire prisoners for no salary, including a commercial company in which the Polish Treasury is a shareholder, like the national rail company. In cases where a prisoner refuses to do the work, he or she might face a disciplinary procedure.
