Hate speech needs to be stopped. Italian NGOs Carta di Roma and Articolo 21 have launched a campaign to sensitize media against the perpetuation of cyber-racism. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness of the phenomenon and to urge everyone involved to play their part in preventing it. The deterrence of hate speech online and the isolation of its perpetrators is indeed a civil duty for readers, viewers and listeners and, furthermore, a professional obligation for journalists, publishers and social media managers.
