Primary schools in The Hague have agreed to welcome neutral Black Petes from now on, ahead of St. Nicholas' Eve on December 5. It’s a collective agreement by all 150 public-authority, Protestant-Christian and Catholic primary schools to boycott the classic black servant with frizzy hair, fat red lips and golden earrings. The school boards consider these discriminating features. Last month, a United Nations Committee that operates against racial discrimination decided that the Dutch government should actively combat the stereotypes that are linked to the character.
