Nineteen million people fled from their countries to escape war and persecution in 2014 alone, putting their lives at risk with the hope of a better future for their families.

What will you tell your children when they ask what you did to help out? This is a dilemma we all need to face.

The 19 Million Project

Human rights supporters and activists believe there is still much that can and must be done. We need to ask ourselves the right questions, find solutions and take action to address an issue that cannot be ignored.

For this reason, the Italian Coalition for Civil Rights and Freedom, together with Chicas Poderosas and with the support of Univision and Fusion, created The 19 Million Project, which aims to find different ways to speak about the current refugees crisis.

Many international partners, such as Google News Lab, Global Editors Network, Berkeley AMI and Valigia Blu, have already joined in.

Correcting the twisted narrative

The initiative will be held in Rome between November 2-13, 2015, putting together more than a hundred human rights activists, journalists and designers in order to create multimedia content to challenge the current twisted narrative on migration issues and substitute it with a new, powerful and incisive story-telling method.

The outputs of the project will then be presented during the upcoming Italian Coalition for Civil Rights and Freedoms Human Rights Awards on November 13, 2015. Find out more here.
