Most contentious issues on the data-exchange pact between Washington and Brussels are agreed, EU Justice Commissioner Věra Jourová told the EUobserver. Jourová said the developments in the negotiations allow the European Commission to present a new draft in early July. The concerned topics are: access to data by US security services; bulk collection of personal information; and independent oversight. The new deal, called Privacy Shield, will replace the Safe Harbor pact, which failed to protect the privacy of EU citizens whose data was transferred to firms, such as Facebook, based in the US.
