An interesting trial in Strasbourg may ensue from a case involving two Hungarian citizens. The claimants say their monitoring by anti-terrorism agents, including the Hungarian Anti-terrorist Center (TEK), without a warrant from a judge is a violation of their privacy rights. TEK is authorized to do this by the version of the Hungarian Police Act in force since 2012, with reference to national security goals. The hope is that the Court of Human Rights will state that the current regulation violates the European Convention on Human Rights and oblige Hungary to change it.
