Hungary's procedure to prevent ill-treatment is ineffective, a report by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment has concluded. The report is based on research carried out at the Hungarian border. It finds that the deployment of foreign police officers provided by Frontex cannot be regarded as a safeguard against ill-treatment. The delegation also found that despite no formal allegations of ill-treatment, a significant number of asylum seekers who were interviewed told of being physically ill-treated by Hungarian police officers.
