Despite what appears to be a deliberate attempt by Bucharest to scupper the nomination of the EU’s first-ever prosecutor general, members of the European Parliament remain committed to giving Laura Codruta Kövesi the nomination on 27 March. Kövesi, a Romanian, was previously in charge of the country's anti-corruption agency, a position she used to investigate and prosecute numerous high-ranking politicians and other influential people. This made her deeply unpopular with the government, which is now trying to torpedo her candidacy for the EU-post.
