European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans has presented an initiative for a mandatory lobby register, a plan appearing on the agenda for the umpteenth time. The proposal sets a simple rule: no meeting with decision-makers without prior registration. "Through the register, the public will see who's lobbying, who they represent and how much they spend." The current transparency measures only apply to the EC and EP but not to council meetings and fall short in fact-checking information. Transparency International earlier discovered that half the entries contained outdated or false data.
