According to the Ministry of Health, for the first time, more people have registered that they do not want to donate organs than people who do. Of almost 31,844 new registrations during Donor Week, 83 percent wanted to "opt-out." A new bill proposed by D66 (liberal democrats) to introduce an active organ donation system passed with a close majority in the Lower House, although it is unclear if the Senate will accept the proposal. The active organ donation system entails that adults who do not decide whether they want to be a donor are automatically registered as organ donors.
