On October 20, the conservative party submitted its proposal to the Seimas (Parliament) to add the Lithuanian Bishops' Conference to list of the founding members of the new public communications ethics association - a media self-regulatory body that is currently being formed. According to the chairman of the Lithuanian Journalists Union, this hasty proposal creates an unprecedented situation where a representative of one particular faith is - for reasons that are entirely unclear - included as a founding member of an association for the press and journalists.
