The Lithuanian parliament has approved amendments allowing natural persons in Lithuania to petition the Constitutional Court directly. People will be able to go to the Constitutional Court directly to request judicial review of laws and acts of Parliament, the President, or the Government that infringe their constitutional rights or freedoms. It is hoped that the new arrangements will reduce the number of appeals to the ECtHR. Previously, only Parliament, Parliamentary groups, the courts and (sometimes) the President or the Government were able to petition the Court.
