Now that the President has finally appointed a Minister of the Environment, the Lithuanian cabinet is once again made up solely of men. Currently Lithuania is the only EU state without a single female minister. The Equal Opportunities Ombudswoman described the situation as “regrettable”, claiming that “the representation of women in politics is an issue of democracy and public representation, since they make up more than half (54%) of all Lithuanian residents." In the EU, on average, women occupy 32% of government positions, with Spain (65%), Sweden (55%) and France (49%) leading the way.
