After the inaugural decision of the Court of Milano in October 2017, the Criminal Court of Agrigento has recognized the slavery of migrants in Libya awaiting in detention centers to flee overseas. A Gambian man has been convicted of putting people in slavery in those illegal centers, where they are kept in degrading and inhuman conditions and subjected to threats and violence. As highlighted by ASGI, their abusive detention is combined with forced labor, which is use as payment for the possibility to get into a boat and hope for a life elsewhere.
