Twenty-seven percent of the European Parliament’s €1.7 billion budget was spent last year on MEP allowances. These 474 million euros include deputies' salaries, office and travel expenses and the salaries of their staff. Under EU law, all these expenses should be accountable and transparently spent, although the EP does not give out any more related data despite several requests from all across the European Union. Now journalists from 27 member states have decided to sue jointly the EP at the European Court of Justice to make this information publicly available.
