Job seekers in the Netherlands over the age of 16 are already "past the expiration date" if they apply at toys chain Intertoys. This emerges from a (now removed) shelf stacking vacancy which specifically addressed 15 or 16-year-olds, something that was made clear to youngsters over that age. Twenty-year-olds are more than twice as expensive as 15-year-olds: 5.61 euros versus 2.74 euros gross per hour. When recruiting new employees, age discrimination without a legal basis is prohibited and employers are not allowed to specifically target secondary school students in their ads.
