Back in October, three prisoners escaped from Rome's Rebibbia prison. The three men used an old and almost romantic system to accomplish their mission: they cut the bars of the cells and climbed down using some bed sheets. Ever since the escape, the prison's regime has been restrained and many activities have been cut altogether for security reasons. Now the investigation focuses on the alleged responsibilities of prison guards and managers (including the directors). But shouldn't we be focusing also on the need for a more humane and rehabilitative prison regime?
