Italy and Malta have reached a deal to end the stalemate over a rescue ship that was stranded in the Mediterranean for five days with more than 230 migrants on board. The Lifeline will make port in Malta, though other countries, including Italy and France, will take in some of the migrants. Italy's newly minted interior minister, Matteo Salvini, has said he will never again allow migrant rescue ships into Italian ports, a key point of the new far-right government's position on migration.
