A bill protecting whistleblowers has passed the Italian Senate and now moves to the House of Deputies. The bill would provide greater protection to whistleblowers in corruption cases, encouraging people to report public- and private-sector graft. It also provides for the reintegration of those workers who have been fired for reporting corruption cases. According to Transparency International, the largest global anti-corruption organisation, the lack of protection for whistleblowers is, along with the lack of Lobbying Regulation, the main lacuna of Italy's corruption legislation.
