The "government contract" drafted by the 5-Star Movement and the League includes a reform of the statute of limitations. The Italian government intends to suspend the statute of limitation in certain circumstances, so that the excessive length of trials does not hinder the due course of judicial proceedings. In this article, Liberties member Antigone has explained why suspending the limitation period would be contrary to the right to be tried within a reasonable time. This right is enshrined in several norms - including the ECHR - to protect people from arbitrary and abusive use of power.
