The UK Human Rights Act (HRA) should not be used to sue the police, the Home Office argued on Monday in a landmark Supreme Court case. Two women attacked by infamous "black cab rapist" John Worboys are pursuing a case against the Metropolitan Police force, arguing that the police violated the HRA and a "duty of care" for the failures in its investigation. The Home Office is worried that the ruling would open the floodgates to similar claims from victims of rape and has "very serious concerns" about imposing a duty of care on police in relation to their investigative work.
