A recent Hungarian court ruling demonstrated how to act against exclusion and racism by means of law. The judgment of the Budapest Court of Appeal held that it was unlawful to segregate Roma children in the public primary school of Gyöngyöspata. The judgment also determined that, as a consequence, Roma children received lower quality education than their peers, which amounts to discrimination. All these circumstances constitute violations of the Equal Treatment Act.
