Tear gas was used by Greek police at an anti-austerity protest held by pensioners, during which some of the hundreds of protesters tried
to topple a police bus, while others wanted to break riot police lines. The Tsipras government had to make more than one billion euros' worth of pension cuts under the international lenders' bailout conditions. Because of this, Greek pensions
have decreased by 25-55 percent, and fresh statistics show that almost half of pensioners now
live under the official poverty line.
