There are only four countrywide radio broadcasters left, all belonging to the public broadcaster. Not since 1991 has radio been so one-sided in Hungary, reports media market site kreativ.hu. The frequency license of the last remaining private station Class FM, a station previously owned by Fidesz oligarch-in-exile Lajos Simicska, has formally expired, silencing the last nationwide commercial station. Class FM’s new owner is suing Hungary’s Media Council because his radio station lost its frequency. Until a court issues a decision, the Media Council is not allowed to issue a frequency tender.
