In response to the increased number of people seeking protection, the German government proposes a new asylum law to speed up the relevant procedures. The parliamentary decisions on this law will be fast-tracked and it should come into effect in November 2015. The proposal is highly controversial. The regulations are called inhumane and unconstitutional. People seeking protection are to spend more time in the initial accommodation centers; benefits in kind are to replace the benefits in cash provided to them. Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro are to be classified as safe countries of origin.
