On the occasion of the European protest day for equality for people with disabilities, on May 4, a number of NGOs are drawing attention to shortcomings in Germany. In 2015, the United Nations criticized that only very few people with disabilities attend regular schools, that there are many barriers to mobility, and that barrier-free living space is missing. The NGOs call for a law on participation that would be centered around self-determination, participation and inclusion of disabled people in the spirit of the UN CRPD. The law is reformed and is due to come into force in early 2017.
