Zohreh Amini, a 49-year old Iranian woman who arrived in Germany with her son in 2012 to seek asylum, has been released from pre-deportation custody. Amini had been ordered to leave the country because authorities did not believe that she was a women’s right activist. Thanks to the help of her lawyer and supporters her deportation has now been cancelled. However, she will not be able to return to her new home in Hof, a city in Bavaria, nor resume her work as a carer for disabled people. Instead, she will be forced to restart the asylum process in one of Germany’s closed asylum centres.
