On the first anniversary of the Paris attacks, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said that the state of emergency imposed after last year's terror attacks is likely to be extended. The 130 victims killed by IS militants died in gun and bomb attacks around the capital. The Bataclan concert hall, where 90 people died, reopened Saturday with a concert by Sting. Arguing for continuing the state of emergency, Valls said it is needed to secure the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. It gives the police extra powers to carry out searches and to place people under house arrest.
