The former prime minister of Kosovo has been arrested by French police on a Serbian arrest warrant issued for war crimes. Ramush Haradinaj, who served as a rebel commander during the 1998-1999 Kosovo conflict, has twice faced charges of war crimes at the UN, but he was acquitted both times. Serbia alleges that Haradinaj, as a commander in the Kosovo Liberation Army, oversaw a campaign of torture and murder against ethnic Serbs. Kosovo's foreign ministry called his arrest unacceptable and said it was working to secure his release.
