Finland's government avoided collapse on Tuesday after the nationalist Finns Party split into two groups. Twenty Finns MPs, including its former leader, formed a new group called New Alliance, and Prime Minister Juha Sipila said he was ready to continue on with the new faction. In a dramatic scene, Sipila was on his way yesterday to submit his government's resignation to President Sauli Niinisto when the split was announced, causing the prime minister to make a U-turn and rush back. "This is a very pleasing solution. We'll continue with the current ministers," Sipila told reporters.
