The Polish government has been formally warned to roll back its overhaul of the top Polish court, a move critics say threatens its independence. The European Commission announced its decision to step up pressure on Poland to fall into line with the EU’s democratic principles. Since the January launch of the rule of law procedure, multiple meetings have brought no progress, driving the EC to send a legal "opinion." The rule of law procedure could lead to the suspension of Poland's voting rights as a member state. Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro called the critique is "one-sided."
