Child migrants do not get enough protection from EU member states, says a joint statement by 78 human rights organizations. The statement points out that one in four asylum seekers in the EU is a minor, and over 700 children are believed to have drowned while trying to reach Europe in 2016 alone. "Many of these children will one day become EU citizens. We need to invest in them and encourage them to become active participants in our societies. The EU and member states can do a lot more," the organizations, which include UNHCR, UNICEF and Save the Children, said.
