Hungary has passed a new law allowing it to house asylum seekers in shipping containers.

As Hungary's new legislation allowing for asylum seekers to be detained in shipping containers at border zones took effect, with the EU's migration commissioner, Dimitris Avramopoulos, warned the country that it must stop flouting the bloc's rules. The new law, which went into force on Tuesday, has been criticized by the UN and human rights organizations, who say it is meant to discourage people from seeking asylum in Hungary and endangers those who are currently attempting to enter the country.
