Heads of EU member states agreed early today that 40,000 migrants will be relocated and 20,000 currently outside the EU will be resettled in the next two years. However, there will be no mandatory quotas for each country as earlier planned. Fresh UNHCR data shows that 63,000 migrants have arrived in Greece by sea this year and 62,000 in Italy. The UK has opted out of the scheme and states in Eastern Europe, primarily Hungary, have refused set quotas, so it will be only voluntary. Earlier, European Council President Donald Tusk called to share the burden of the boat loads of illegal migrants.
