EU representatives from the European Parliament, the European Commission and the national governments have agreed on EU-wide whistleblower protection. While the final legal text is not yet published, press statements reveal that those who report breaches in EU law will be protected from being fired, demoted, or sued. Transparency International EU praised the latest deal as a mould-breaking piece of legislation. "It is quite an accomplishment that negotiations between the institutions have come to a positive end," Nick Aiossa, senior policy officer at TI EU, stated.
